Outdoors & nature activities (by interest)

Downhill skiing / winter sports

• Titus Mountain Ski Center — family-friendly ski area minutes from Malone with runs for beginner → intermediate and a reliable local spot for lift skiing & lessons. If you’re coming in winter, this is the go-to. Tripadvisor

Snowmobiling & winter touring

Cross-country skiing & snowshoeing

• Local groomed tracks and forest roads make for mellow XC skiing; check local trail reports and Adirondack regional guides for conditions. Experience Our Adirondacks

Birding & wildlife

• Northern reaches near Lake Champlain and the Champlain Birding Trail are excellent for waterfowl & winter species (snowy owls, buntings) — bring binoculars and a scope for lakes/shorelines. Adirondacks

Although Malone itself sits at the edge of the Park, there are many notable lakes a short drive south or east:

• Loon Lake Mountain Trailhead

• Chasm Falls, Owls Head, NY - Local waterfall/swimming area

• Mirror Lake / Lake Placid area — classic Adirondack lake for summer paddling and winter skating (drive time from Malone ~1–1.5 hours). Very scenic and tourist-friendly. Adirondacks

Fishing: NYS DEC lists Franklin County waters (Rollins Pond, Lake Kushaqua, and other nearby ponds) as quality angling spots — check stocking/season rules before you go.
